Service Description

This 2.5-hour workshop explores how to write comedy music, whether you’re creating a parody or an original song. Learn how to turn jokes into lyrics, use melody and musical structure to heighten a comedic premise, and transform silly ideas and bits into fully realized songs. No prior musical training is required, just bring your ideas and a willingness to play! Gabby Cameron is a musical comedian who this year debuted her musical comedy hour, Banjo in the Borscht Belt, at The Kennedy Center, which can be streamed for free on YouTube. Gabby has been writing songs since she was seven years old, and her work includes ridiculous songs like “This Is How You Let Somebody Ruin Your Day,” which was commissioned by Strathmore Music Center. Gabby is also a voice coach and music educator in the Baltimore area. She holds an MA in ethnomusicology—which, if you don’t know what that is, that’s okay; it’s just a big, dumb, long word for an anthropologist of music. Experience Level: Improv 101, Stand-Up 101, or some prior comedy experience. No prior musical training is required! Schedule: Sunday October 18th Time: 11:00-1:30pm Facilitator: Gabby Cameron Cost: $35
