Character Based Openings
June 10th 2:00-4:00PM: A FREE BIG Workshop for Levels 401 and UP only
- North Charles Street
Service Description
There is more to improv than the Harold and there is more to Openings than the Pattern Game! In this workshop, you will be discovering the importance of an opening and the benefits of building a group mind at the top of your set. A great way to work on Characters as well as discover new and fun openings for your Harold or Indie Team! Rebecca McGivney began studying improv at the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) Theater in New York City in 2013. In addition to being a house team performer there- on the Lloyd team Kingship- she has played on numerous indie teams and taken classes in both improv and character work with fantastic instructors including Don Fanelli, Achilles Stamatelaky, James Dwyer, Natasha Vaynblat, and Jackie Jennings. Coming to improv with a background in theater and voice performance, she is a staunch believer in committing to a scene and characters; while her interests in art history, radical theater, and performance art means she loves to see scenes get a little weird. In 2020, she moved to Baltimore to pursue her MLIS in Library and Information Science and started taking classes at BIG in 2021 after missing improv during COVID. In addition to facilitating at BIG, she can be seen performing with BIG house team Snake Oil and indie team Melk. Saturday, June 10th from 2:00 - 4:00 PM Cost: FREE Prerequisite: 401
