Baltimore Improv Group performer Kristen McKenzie produces A Little Bit Show, a comedy show featuring new and experimental comedic ideas performed in just five minutes each. These weird short experiments can be anything. Some are completely planned. Others rely on improv skills to create something new in a moment. This show offers audiences a tiny taste as a variety show introducing wild, strange, and possibly comedic ideas. Kristen decided to bring the idea to the BIG stage after attending The Upright Citizens Brigade's Del Close Marathon (DCM). DCM started 20 years ago in New York City as an annual showcase of improv comedy in nonstop shows. The legendary festival's presented late night shows "I had the idea last summer coming home from DCM," Kristen told me in an e-mail after I asked her to write something to quote in this blog post. "My favorite memories of DCM are the Bit shows. They were so weird and experimental and I loved the idea of bringing that same energy to our stage. I emailed Jen on train home and she immediately emailed back saying that we’d “mind melded” and totally supported the idea. " "I think people enjoy it because it’s total freedom. It’s just five minutes, one time. So if your idea doesn’t work, it’s just five minutes. And you never have to do it again. People are really digging into the idea of experimenting and taking big risks and in true BIG spirit, they are always 100% supported by the crowd. I’m thrilled that people are so excited by this show and continue to support it!" A Little Bit Show is monthly on Thursdays from 9:30pm - 10:00pm.
