BIG Founding member heather moyer to feature again (and again and again) in a 17-hour improv marathon

Baltimore Improv Group founding member Heather Moyer will celebrate her 17th year as an improviser with MOYERTHON, a 17-hour improv marathon at The BIG Theater. MOYERTHON is a fundraiser for the Baltimore Improv Group, a non-profit arts organization dedicated to the performance and teaching of improv comedy.
Beginning Saturday, Dec. 1 at 8 a.m, MOYERTHON will present a non-stop bill of improv shows - and Moyer be in every one of them. Moyer’s 17 hours of improvising will conclude early in the morning on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 1 a.m. Except for transitions between shows, Moyer intends to be on stage continuously for the entire 17 hours.
The performance line-up, which will be finalized in the coming weeks, will include Baltimore Improv Group’s resident teams, along with indie teams and special projects from the Baltimore-Washington area.
“It’s so exciting to see how many people we have in the improv community now,” Moyer said. “I’ve loved seeing BIG grow. Creating a safe space with opportunities to perform every night of the week for people from all backgrounds and experience levels is just as much fun now as when I started. It’s a supportive community and a non-competitive environment, and I know lots of generous folks are going to come out for this night.”
Admission to MOYERTHON is a $17 suggested donation. As part of its open-doors policy, all shows at BIG have been free since May and will stay so throughout the end of the year. Additional donations will be encouraged throughout the day. Audience members will be able to support Moyer by contributing items to increase her stamina and comfort -- paid “donations” of things like sports beverages, comfy chairs and neck rubs.
"This event is a semi-maniacal twist on a classic improv stunt: the improv marathon,” said BIG managing director Terry Withers. “Improv theatres often run 12-24 hour nonstop improv marathons, but no one has ever improvised for 17 hours straight! Heather is making history here, and I would say you don't even need to be an improv fan to appreciate the endurance and daring spirit required for this. If you like people putting their necks on the line for what they believe in, I wouldn't miss it."
MOYERTHON is Saturday, Dec. 1 at 8 a.m. through Sunday, Dec. 2 at 1 a.m. at The BIG Theater, 1727 N. Charles St. For more information and tickets go to moyerthon.eventbrite.com.
